We are looking for an experienced, skilled and highly motivated researcher with a solid background on “Understand the real demands of complex structural design and engineering problems and developing new algorithms and efficient, accessible tools for structurally informed design and automatization having into account the fabrication and construction technologies” and demonstrable experience of 4-6 years in complex research projects, capable of responding to the problems, challenges and opportunities faced by the construction sector.



The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:


  • Techno-economic management of R&D projects (at national and European level):

    • Active participation in the technical development of R&D projects, especially in tasks related to data driven fabrication technologies oriented towards to both 3D printed products and industrialized building systems. Generation of novel ideas and solutions related to the aforementioned challenges.

    • Planning and following of R&D project activities/tasks considering the available resources and optimizing costs.

    • Identify and manage actively risks with contingency plans and mitigating activities.

    • Develop and maintain client relationship during and after the project.

  • Ideation and preparation of R&D proposals for industrial clients and public calls, at national and European level.

  • Stimulate development of new intellectual property by a continuous monitoring of the state-of-the art and market evolution in the field of research of digital fabrication technologies.

Requisitos mínimos

Degree in: Civil and Environmental Engineering or Architecture and Structural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Master of Science (MSc) in Building Technology or Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Digital Fabrication and Robotics or Master of Science Program in Computation for Design and Optimization or Master in Robotics, Systems and Control or Master in Computer Science.



Technical background:


  • Building materials, multiparametric design and industrialized building systems, as well as development and improvement of performance solutions having into account the Data-Driven Design and Automatization of the manufacturing based on smart performance control.

  • Structural design, generative design, computational geometry/form finding, optimization and scientific programming, digital design (Rhino3D, Grasshopper3D, Python, etc.), industrial robots and coding (Python, ROS).

  • 3D computer vision scripting in Python and sensing for automatization in construction and robotic software development for real time tool-path control to manufacture 3D printed products or data acquisition for residual value interfering of their properties.

  • Experience with open-sourced software and hardware, and PLC programming and integrations ROS.

  • At least, 4 years of proven experience on preparation, management, and coordination of R&D projects, both public and privately funded in structural and digital design and fabrication technologies for construction products.

Additional requirements:


  • Proactive and results-oriented profile, with excellent analytical, organizational and teamwork skills.

  • Proficient in English, at least C1 level or equivalent.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Availability to travel abroad.


Other valuable aspects:


  • PhD degree.

  • Work experience in industry.
