The Data Architect is accountable for maintaining and evolving the data landscape, in line with strategic and technical goals. Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, the Data Architect will define an Enterprise Data Vision for the business that encompasses both our bespoke solutions and all third party systems in our ecosystem, and will work closely with Engineering to ensure that change programmes align with, and transform towards, our long term vision for data.
The role holder will work with stakeholders right across the business, since our data is the lifeblood of the operation. S/He will shape our data culture, balancing the needs of data protection with the desire to make timely and accurate data available to all stakeholder groups as necessary and appropriate.
The Data Architect will be a senior, impactful and highly visible role within Small World, and as such the role holder will be expected to contribute accordingly as a senior leader.
Role details:
- Establish and maintain the Enterprise Data Vision and Architecture, and communicate this vision clearly to all stakeholder groups across the business.
- Provide day-to-day data design guidance for engineering teams working across all domains technology environment, including the core transactional system, the web and mobile apps, the reporting architecture, and the 3rd party integration infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain a good understanding of business priorities and be active in shaping our data architecture to ensure they support the future direction of the business.
- Drive excellence in data stewardship across in-life operations and change projects.
- Provide guidance to procurement projects around the data fit of new software and platforms.
- As a senior member of the Technology team, foster strong working relationships between technology teams, as well as between technology teams and other parts of the business. In particular, work closely with the Software Architect in migration towards a more granular, microservice- and serverless-based core platform.
- Working closely with the Group Information Security Officer, Data Protection Officer, and security experts within Technology, ensure that data management and security practices provide the optimum balance between access, privacy and security.
