Senior Video Engineer

i2CAT Foundation (Barcelona) is opening a senior position to advance in the innovation field of video distribution and communication services, involving both traditional and newly emerging immersive formats (e.g., 360º video, volumetric video...)

The candidate will join the Media & Internet Area (MIA) of i2CAT, which is composed of over 14 experienced researchers and engineers in the fields of distributed and interactive multimedia systems and media processing, and is involved in relevant R&I&D projects with the European and national ecosystems, in close collaboration with key players from academia and industry.

This area is seeking a Senior Engineer to co-lead innovation and development activities in the field of video procesing, distribution and communication services, including: ii) communication and distribution architectures to maximize scalability and interoperability; iii) adaptive and low-latency streaming methods; and iv) interactive multiuser services, like conferencing.

The candidate will be involved in cutting-edge research, innovation, development and validation tasks, with leading roles, and will collaborate hand-in-hand with experts in the media and networks domains under the umbrella of competitive national and international projects (Horizon Europe, European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking, SNS JU), including the collaboration with highly relevant international partners from academia and industry.

The results from the planned activities are expected to lead to high-impact scientific publications, technology/knowledge transfer (e.g., open-source software, patents, contributions to standards), resulting cutting-edge software and services (e.g., XR holographic communication services), and career development opportunities (self and of supervised of highly skilled personnel).

The ideal candidate has experience in one or more of the following fields:

  • Video capture and processing hardware
  • Video formats (2D, 360º, volumetric video) and codecs
  • Video streaming protocols (RTP, HTTP streaming, WebRTC…) and frameworks
  • Video streaming platforms, architectures and services
  • Real-time video communication architectures and services
  • Media Streaming Frameworks (e.g., ffmpeg, Gstreamer…), Transcoding Backends, and Communication Servers (e.g., Janus WebRTC, node.js)

Other desirable requirements include:

  • Knowledge on real-time audio streaming/communication services
  • Quality of Service (QoS) evaluation methodologies
  • Solid programming (C/C++ and Javascript) and software design skills. Python experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of video playback software (e.g., dash.js) and familiarity with 3D engines (e.g. Unity, Unreal)
  • English professional proficiency
  • Communication skills (writing and presenting)
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills

This area is seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior DevOps to join our development team. Within MIA team, the successful candidate will design from the scratch all the relevant stages that conform a fully featured CD/CI infrastructure capable of spawning automatically several services in the cloud using custom containers. The ideal candidate shall discuss which are the needs from development and managing staff in order to maximize production. We work in an agile manner so our work day involve daily meetings, sprint plannings, retrospectives...

The successful candidate will be responsible of design from the scratch a fully featured CD/CI pipeline. In general terms, it will consists in the creation of the docker containers to be spawned during integration testing, define infrastructure for remote deploying several services and integration of such infrastructure inside existing CD/CI Gitlab framework.

In parallel, the ideal candidate shall propose best options for in-house servers in order to have as smooth as possible integration of remote deployment infrastructure against it. Ideally, such candidate should also take care of project building, and unit testing integration.

Moreover, the candidate will be involved in cutting-edge research, innovation and development tasks. All this R&I&D will shape the future of HoloMIT, collaborating hand-to-hand with experts in the media and networks domains under the umbrella of competitive national and international projects (Horizon Europe, European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking, SNS JU), including the collaboration with highly relevant international partners from academia and industry.

  • Experience with OpenCV or other Computer vision libraries.
  • Hands-on experience in the graphics sector, better if in immersive technologies (XR, VR, AR)

Your Tasks

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Cloud Engineer to join our team dedicated to delivering enterprise cloud infrastructure solutions.

What we do: 

  • Build and maintain internal tooling and blueprints to enable our development teams to provision infrastructure and deploy their applications
  • Collaborate with our development teams to improve their deployment velocity and share best practices regarding cloud infrastructure

Your Profile

Ground Systems Engineer

The i2cat Foundation is looking for a Ground Systems Engineer to join our Space Communications Research Group.

The SpaceComms area is currently participating in different activities that conform to the New Space Strategy of Catalonia. This strategy aims at promoting the space ecosystem in the catalan region and developing novel technologies that reach the market to boost private and public initiatives. Among the different activities that are planned in the strategy, the research and development ones are key to achieve the strategy goal.

The SpaceComms is conducting different projects in its New Space research programme, centered in pillar technologies: (1) integration of satellite systems in 5G infrastructure to conform NTN; (2) contributions to Software Defined Networks deployments in satellite constellations; and (3) developments of Inter-Satellite Link technologies. The research programme envisions to validate these developed technologies in dedicated CubeSat missions, that can additionally provide novel services to the catalan region.

As a Ground Systems Engineer, you will provide support in the concept, design, development, and technical implementation of the ground infrastructure of the Space Communications department at i2CAT. The ground infrastructure, spread across several locations, will support the department's research activities on one hand, and on the other, assist in the management and operation of the CubeSat missions at i2CAT.

Some responsabilities of the candidate:

  • Participate in the design of the ground segment infrastructure, according to the department's needs and objectives.
  • Assist in the technical development and implementation of the ground infrastructure, ensuring it meets the required quality and standards.
  • Provide support to the Space Comms department's research activities, aiding in the advancement of 5G/6G space communication technologies.

As a CubeSat Subsystems Engineer at i2CAT, you will participate in the conceptualization, design, and implementation of CubeSat missions with a focus on advanced telecommunications payloads, including 6G technologies. The responsabilities of the selected candidate:

  • Provide technical support throughout all stages of a CubeSat mission, including the planning phase and subsystems design and integration.
  • Define precise specifications for CubeSat subsystems and draft of the corresponding technical requirements.

i2CAT Foundation (Barcelona) is opening a position to advance in the research and innovation field of real-time distributed video services, involving immersive media formats like volumetric video.

The candidate will join the Media & Internet Area (MIA) of i2CAT, which is composed of over 14 experienced researchers and engineers in the fields of distributed and interactive multimedia systems and media processing, and is involved in relevant R&I projects with the European and national ecosystems, in close collaboration with key players from academia and industry.

The Cyber Security area is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Research Engineer for R&D projects in the Cyber Security sector to work on the design, planning and execution of R + I + D activities.

One topic of investigation is the security of virtualization and operating system architectures for the next generation of software networks. The department aims to investigate the design of such architectures, their contribution to the security, the trustworthiness and the privacy in distributed environments, while also investigating their structural weaknesses.

As part of the regular work, the researcher is expected to:

  • Participate in technological developments in this area.
  • Define technological requirements of the projects and test bed infrastructure to be developed.
  • Build proofs of concept (prototypes) based on disruptive ideas and technologies
