Top Multinational Final Company (Madrid): Their client's digital Ontology Product provides the central capability to build, manage, and provide ontologies for all kind of use cases and solutions across the entire company. It comprises the ontology management framework (OMF) with tools from the semantic web technology stack, graph databases, and data integration to enable editing, provisioning, and integration of ontologies with other systems.The OMF is using a cloud environment (Azure).

We are looking for an experienced Ontologist with a background in natural or life sciences to develop and manage the Ontology Product towards secure production-grade level at scale.

• Collaborate intensively with the global BASF R&D community ensuring that domain-specific ontologies can be integrated following the FAIR principles and standard methodologies


• Participate in defining and implementing a governance framework for ontologies


• Customize and apply ontology reasoning services and ontology editing tools, and automate ontology maintenance tasks


• Integrate semantic web, NLP and knowledge management techniques into the OMF


• Participate in the development of new methods and functionalities for the OMF, translate the outcome into regular business operation and ensure broad adoption in the community

Must have qualification

• Degree (M.Sc.or PhD) in one of the following areas: computer or information science, mathematics, engineering, computational linguistics,chemo-or bioinformatics


• Ideally, sound understanding of natural sciences, esp.chemistry in industrial R&D and ability to capture requirements and translate use cases into ontology/taxonomy design using modeling techniques, tools, and methodologies


• Several years of work experience in project management building ontologies, taxonomies, data classification, or creating complex metadata schemas


• Practical experience in: Applying semantic technologies to structured and unstructured data sources, ideally in a natural sciences domain. Working with graph databases (primarily Neo4J), and scripting languages (e.g.Cypher, SPARQL, Python, Java, XML, JSON-LD)


• Good knowledge of formal logic, set theory and lexical semantics and relevant standards (RDF, OWL2, SPARQL, SHACL, OBO, SKOS)


• Excellent analytical skills with focus on problem solving


• Ability to perform in global teams using agile development


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English
