The i2CAT’s Cybersecurity area focuses on exploring and defining innovation in a mission-oriented technologies usage that applies its knowledge to meet real industry and society challenges. It works with specialized research support teams in areas such as SDN / NFV, 5G, IoT, Connected Vehicle, IA & ML and in conjunction with a software engineering team to develop projects for customers and internal projects and a team of relationship with companies and institutions.


For R+D+I activities, it works directly with a Government SOC of national relevance where:


• Identify improvements in the tools, technologies and processes of the SOC ecosystem


• Define the technological and organizational requirements for continuous improvements


• Lead innovation projects in this field


• Build evidence of concept of disruptive ideas and technologies


The CyberSecurity Research Area of i2CAT is looking for an experienced CyberSecurity researcher that leads i2CAT's CyberSecurity research activities. The successful candidate will carry out the following activities:


  • Plan, conceive, conduct, and manage research and development for current and prospective projects of CyberSecurity Research Area.

  • Initiate, design, develop, execute, and evaluate new processes, tools, or systems through basic and applied research.

  • Lead the CyberSecurity area research team, keeping the researchers' work aligned to the research area's objectives as well as the goals of the different projects where the area participates.

  • Lead the writing of scientific papers for high-quality journals and top-notch conferences.

  • Lead the preparation of research project proposals, in collaboration with international partners from academia and the Industry.

  • Undertakes development and possible technology transfer of solutions, products, principles or technology, in collaboration with the CyberSecurity area Innovation Director.

  • Undertake creative work, making systematic use of investigation or experimentation, to discover or revise knowledge of reality, and use this knowledge to devise new applications.

  • Help promote and develop the professional career of the Cybersecurity area researchers.

Where will you do it?


At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.


If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.


Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requisitos mínimos

Minimum requirements:


  • PhD in Cybersecurity, or Security related Communications/Computing topics.

  • Has understandings and capabilities by using the scientific method's hypothesis, test, and evaluation techniques; critical review; or similar engineering research and development methods.

  • Proven publications track record in Cybersecurity-related topics

  • Ability to lead and manage research teams, both from a technical and human perspective

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired requirements:


  • Proven record track in FP7 or H2020 projects, occupying technical leadership positions (e.g. WP leader, technical coordinator)

  • Excellent publications track record (minimum H Index 20)

  • Experience managing research teams
